I just want to share a note with all of you who think that Montreal losing last night is a victory to you.  I’ll start by saying it is not.

Back in mid-May Chloe, Zac and I ran our Montreal Canadien Flag up our flag pole for the first time in a few years.  We honeHab Flagstly thought it would be down in a week or so but thought, they are playing the Leafs, we have to show our colours.  The playoffs did not start out well and it looked like I would be running out in the middle of the night to lower that flag.  Well here we are 7 weeks later.  3 Series wins, 6 OT wins, a trip to the finals and memories to last a lifetime.  Montreal has had some surprise runs in the past 11 years and they have all been enjoyable but this year was little different.  It has been sad season for many.  The never-ending lockdowns, not being able to see family and friends or being able to watch your kids play the sports they love has been tough.

For the last 7 weeks I have had an escape.  I have been able to sit on the couch in our little Hab room with my 16 year old daughter and 18 year old son every second night.  We have been able to screem like lunatics in excitement, yell at the TV in disappointment.  We have woken our good-natured Mom/Wife out of dead sleeps and I don’t believe there has been one complaint.  We have stayed up listening to Montreal post game shows.  We have shared late night calls with a dad/grandpa.  Had morning calls with that same dad/grandpa to rehash the night before.   We have taken numerous late night runs to the Truck Stop (only place open in town at midnight) to grab KitKat Chunkys, (A new tradition after each win that was getting expensive.)  Only one team wins the last game and Tampa was that team.  To the Tampa Bay Fans congratulations and enjoy.  Am I gutted this morning?  No…a little disappointed but so happy with the run.

So for those of you out there that get joy in the Habs losing… Save it.  Don’t mistake the Canadiens loss as your victory unless of course you are a Lightning fan and I honestly don’t think I know any of them. To be able to sit back for 7 weeks and watch a team on a run, to watch different players be heroes in different games was so much fun.  To be able to relive a bit of my ‘80s and early 90s watching this team and to be able to share each game with my 2 kids was absolutely priceless.  And for the record, the flags not coming down and might fly all summer. Go Habs Go!!  What a blast!!!
